Abstract:

The current study presents the influences of cutting parameters (cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut) on the surface roughness during milling. The used materials are AISI 1045 steel. The cutting tool is a face milling, made of hard alloy (BK8). The experimental plan of this study is carried out by using Box-Behnken technique. The analysis of experimental results found out the influence of the input parameters as well as their interaction on the surface roughness. In addition, the study proposed two models of surface roughness prediction, one of which is developed according to Response surface method (RSM) and the other is built on the basis of Johnson transformation. Research results showed that the Johnson-based is better than the model using RSM.
